FAQ

WHAT IS SUGARING?

Sugaring is a natural method of hair removal using a simple blend of sugar, lemon, and water. The paste is applied at body temperature and removes hair in the direction of growth, making it a gentler option for many skin types.

With consistent treatments, sugaring can lead to reduced regrowth over time. Skin is left smooth and softly exfoliated without harsh resins or strips.

Benefits of sugaring include:

• Gentle exfoliation with smoother skin after treatment

• Suitable for many clients with sensitive skin or visible veins

• No risk of burning due to low temperature application

• Helps reduce ingrown hairs with regular maintenance

• Ideal for delicate facial and intimate areas

• Many clients find it more comfortable than traditional waxing

⸻

PRE SUGARING CARE

BODY SUGARING

For best results, sugaring is recommended on a regular schedule. Most clients return every three to five weeks, depending on individual hair growth. Consistent maintenance allows hair to grow back finer and more sparse over time, often extending the time between visits.

Please allow hair to be at least one quarter inch long so the sugar can properly grip the hair. Avoid trimming before your appointment, as hair that is too short may not be removed effectively.

Additional preparation tips:

• Avoid sun exposure or tanning beds before your appointment, as this can increase skin sensitivity

• Sugaring exfoliates the skin and may remove spray tan, so avoid spray tanning prior to your visit

Clients who return within the maintenance window for Brazilian services may qualify for a maintenance rate.

⸻

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Sugaring is generally well tolerated, but sensitivity varies from person to person.

To support comfort:

• Taking ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your appointment may help reduce discomfort

• Limit caffeine on the day of your appointment, as it can heighten sensitivity

• Sugaring during your menstrual cycle is allowed, though sensitivity may be increased. A tampon or menstrual cup is required

Clients on a regular cycle often find scheduling every four weeks most comfortable.

⸻

HOW MUCH HAIR TO REMOVE?

Not sure how much hair you want removed? You do not need to decide in advance.

For Brazilian services, hair can be left in a simple shape or removed fully. You will have the opportunity to check and adjust during the service. More hair can always be removed, allowing you to choose what feels right for you.

⸻

FACIAL SUGARING

Certain skincare ingredients can increase sensitivity and should be avoided before facial hair removal.

Please inform your esthetician if you are using or have recently used products containing:

• Retinol or Retin A

• Accutane or isotretinoin

• Glycolic acid or other AHAs

• Salicylic acid or BHAs

• Benzoyl peroxide

• Hydroquinone

• Prescription acne medications

If you are unsure, please reach out before booking so we can guide you safely.

Recommended wait times:

• Retinol or Retin A: 1 week

• Accutane or isotretinoin: 1 year

• Steroids or antibiotics: 3 months

• Hydroquinone: 1 week

If sugaring is not appropriate, alternative options such as tweezing may be recommended.

⸻

SUGARING POSITIONS

Some positioning during intimate services may feel unfamiliar at first. You may be asked to assist by gently stretching the skin, as sugaring requires the area to remain taut for best results.

Positioning may be similar to what you experience during a gynecological exam. Your licensed esthetician is trained, professional, and focused on your comfort and results. Creating a smooth outcome is always the priority.

⸻

SUGARING AFTERCARE

FIRST 24 TO 48 HOURS

To support healing and prevent irritation:

• Avoid touching the treated area with unwashed hands

• Avoid pools, hot tubs, lakes, and the ocean

• Avoid exercise, saunas, sexual activity and excessive sweating

• Avoid makeup after facial services and deodorant after underarm services

• Avoid chemical peels for at least one week after facial sugaring

⸻

AT HOME CARE

Once tenderness has resolved:

• Exfoliate regularly using an exfoliating glove in the shower, moving in circular motions against hair growth

• Shower promptly after exercise to reduce irritation from sweat

• Apply an ingrown oil daily to clean, dry skin to help prevent bumps and irritation

Proper aftercare is essential to maintaining smooth results and reducing ingrowns between visits.

Pre Sugaring

Body Sugaring

  • The best results occur when sugaring regularly. Hair growth is faster for some than others, but the usual recommendation is to get sugared every 3-5 weeks, while you still look bare. Clients who return for “maintenance sugared brazilians” within that time period are offered a discount . As you continue sugaring, fewer & fewer hairs will grow back, & eventually the time period between sugarings can be lengthened. We want the hair to be at least 1/4 long so that we can get the best results. If the hair is too short it may not be picked up by the sugar. Please avoid trimming before your appointment.
  • Avoid exposure to the sun/ tanning beds before your appointment as it can make your skin more sensitive and susceptible to lifting.
  • Be advised that sugaring exfoliates the skin and can remove your spray tan, so avoid getting sprayed before your appointment!

Pain Management

  • Taking an ibuprofen at least 30 minutes before your appointment can help reduce any discomfort you may experience during your sugaring appointment by dulling the pain receptors in your body.
  • Limit your caffeine intake on the day of your appointment as caffeine can stimulate the nervous system, causing you to be more sensitive.
  • Although sugaring while on your monthly cycle is totally acceptable (must be wearing a menstrual cup or tampon), please be advised that your senses may be highteneed causing some excess discomfort. Please make your next appointment with that in mind. That is one reason why people on a regular 28-day cycle make their appointments at four-week intervals.

How much to Remove?

  • Not sure if you want to leave a little hair and a design or none at all? Sweet 2B Sugared has got you covered: I can leave some hair in a simple design and then you can look in a hand held mirror and decide if you like it. More hair can always be removed, right down to the bare smooth skin!

Facial Sugaring

  • Many products can cause negative affects when waxing the face due to their strong ingredients. Some ingredients to avoid when receiving facial waxing are:  Accutane, Differin, Retin A/Retinol, Glycolic acid/AHA’s, ProActive, Avita, Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid/ BHA’s. Also be aware of any medications that alert you to be careful in the sun as those will also cause skin sensitivity.

How long should you wait after using these ingredients before getting waxed?

  • Retinol, Retin-A, Retinoic Acid: 3 Days- 1 Week
  • Accutane, Roaccutane, Isotretinoin: 1 Year
  • Steroids & Antibiotics: 3 Months
  • Hydroquinone: 1 Week

*Although waxing is discouraged while using these products, there are other options available, such as tweezing. Please contact me for details!*

Sugaring Positions

Positioning for the bare-all can feel a little awkward. You may need to help by stretching the skin, which must be tight to be sugared. Positioning for the labia may include that similar to gynecological visits. Positioning for just above the buttocks and in between can often can be accomplished on the side. Remember that your licensed esthetician has seen it all! And that smooth outcome is worth the blushing.

Sugaring Aftercare

First 24-48 hours

  • Please avoid touching the sugared areas after your appointment. Bacteria on your fingers can enter the open follicle and cause irritation or breakouts.
  • Avoid the pool, ocean, and jacuzzi. Dirty water also contains bacteria which can cause irritation & breakouts.
  • Avoid exercising, and saunas. Unfortunately sweat can also cause irritation & breakouts after waxing.
  • Avoid face makeup (post facial waxing.) Avoid deodorant (post underarm wax.)
  • Chemical peels should be avoided for at least one week post facial waxing.

At Home Care:

  • Use your exfoliating glove regularly in the shower, in circular motions, against the direction of the hair growth. Regular exfoliation (once you're no longer tender) is highly important! One of the great benefits of sugaring is that your hair will begin to grow in much thinner and finer. If you are not exfoliating the layer of dead skin cells off then your hair may have trouble breaking through the surface which can cause an ingrown.
  • Try to shower immediately after exercising to avoid irritation from sweating.
  • Apply an ingrown oil (Sold at Sweet 2B Sugared) daily on clean dry skin to treat and prevent ingrown hairs and irritation.
