FAQ

What is sugaring?

Sugaring is a 100% natural form of hair removal that uses a mixture of lemon juice, sugar and water.

Repeated treatments can lead to permanent reduction of regrowth

* Skin is left feeling soft and gently exfoliate it

* Safe for most clients with sensitive skin and varicose vein

* Sugar is warmed to body temperature so there is no risk of burning

* Sugaring can diminish ingrown hairs

* Sugaring is great for delicate facial tissue

* Most clients fine sugar and to be less painful than other methods

* Hair is removed in the natural direction of hair growth

Pre Sugaring

Body Sugaring

  • The best results occur when sugaring regularly. Hair growth is faster for some than others, but the usual recommendation is to get sugared every 3-5 weeks, while you still look bare. Clients who return for “maintenance sugared brazilians” within that time period are offered a discount . As you continue sugaring, fewer & fewer hairs will grow back, & eventually the time period between sugarings can be lengthened. We want the hair to be at least 1/4 long so that we can get the best results. If the hair is too short it may not be picked up by the sugar. Please avoid trimming before your appointment.
  • Avoid exposure to the sun/ tanning beds before your appointment as it can make your skin more sensitive and susceptible to lifting.
  • Be advised that sugaring exfoliates the skin and can remove your spray tan, so avoid getting sprayed before your appointment!

Pain Management

  • Taking an ibuprofen at least 30 minutes before your appointment can help reduce any discomfort you may experience during your sugaring appointment by dulling the pain receptors in your body.
  • Limit your caffeine intake on the day of your appointment as caffeine can stimulate the nervous system, causing you to be more sensitive.
  • Although sugaring while on your monthly cycle is totally acceptable (must be wearing a menstrual cup or tampon), please be advised that your senses may be highteneed causing some excess discomfort. Please make your next appointment with that in mind. That is one reason why people on a regular 28-day cycle make their appointments at four-week intervals.

How much to Remove?

  • Not sure if you want to leave a little hair and a design or none at all? Sweet 2B Sugared has got you covered: I can leave some hair in a simple design and then you can look in a hand held mirror and decide if you like it. More hair can always be removed, right down to the bare smooth skin!

Facial Sugaring

  • Many products can cause negative affects when waxing the face due to their strong ingredients. Some ingredients to avoid when receiving facial waxing are:  Accutane, Differin, Retin A/Retinol, Glycolic acid/AHA’s, ProActive, Avita, Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid/ BHA’s. Also be aware of any medications that alert you to be careful in the sun as those will also cause skin sensitivity.

How long should you wait after using these ingredients before getting waxed?

  • Retinol, Retin-A, Retinoic Acid: 3 Days- 1 Week
  • Accutane, Roaccutane, Isotretinoin: 1 Year
  • Steroids & Antibiotics: 3 Months
  • Hydroquinone: 1 Week

*Although waxing is discouraged while using these products, there are other options available, such as tweezing. Please contact me for details!*

Sugaring Positions

Positioning for the bare-all can feel a little awkward. You may need to help by stretching the skin, which must be tight to be sugared. Positioning for the labia may include that similar to gynecological visits. Positioning for just above the buttocks and in between can often can be accomplished on the side. Remember that your licensed esthetician has seen it all! And that smooth outcome is worth the blushing.

Sugaring Aftercare

First 24-48 hours

  • Please avoid touching the sugared areas after your appointment. Bacteria on your fingers can enter the open follicle and cause irritation or breakouts.
  • Avoid the pool, ocean, and jacuzzi. Dirty water also contains bacteria which can cause irritation & breakouts.
  • Avoid exercising, and saunas. Unfortunately sweat can also cause irritation & breakouts after waxing.
  • Avoid face makeup (post facial waxing.) Avoid deodorant (post underarm wax.)
  • Chemical peels should be avoided for at least one week post facial waxing.

At Home Care:

  • Use your exfoliating glove regularly in the shower, in circular motions, against the direction of the hair growth. Regular exfoliation (once you're no longer tender) is highly important! One of the great benefits of sugaring is that your hair will begin to grow in much thinner and finer. If you are not exfoliating the layer of dead skin cells off then your hair may have trouble breaking through the surface which can cause an ingrown.
  • Try to shower immediately after exercising to avoid irritation from sweating.
  • Apply an ingrown oil (Sold at Sweet 2B Sugared) daily on clean dry skin to treat and prevent ingrown hairs and irritation.
